Bryan Roth moved from Chicago to Houston for his ophthalmology residency at Baylor in 2015. A couple of months later, he swiped right on Houston native Leslie Goldberg’s profile on the Jewish dating app JSwipe, and their love story began. The couple’s life of togetherness, traveling, caring for their puppy and hiking, started from their first date over sushi and drinks. After four years together and a move to Ohio, Leslie was happily awaiting Bryan’s marriage proposal while Bryan made big plans to make it happen. The pandemic, however, threw a wrench in his plans forcing him to adapt.
While driving through Cleveland on the couple’s first night eating out since the pandemic, Bryan took a “wrong turn” to the restaurant. Instead, they ended up at a park they frequented and took a stroll to a beautiful river overlook, where Bryan popped the question with a photographer hiding in the bushes to document the occasion. The couple celebrated with dinner at Leslie’s favorite local spot, where both of their families were waiting to surprise the happy couple. Leslie was overjoyed that her father and stepmother —who hadn’t left the house in months— had dressed in protective clothing and flown all the way out to surprise her.
Despite living nearly 1,500 miles away from their venue, the couple planned a whole weekend of activities for their guests. They chose the ever-romantic Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa for its abundance of amenities and proximity to Leslie’s grandmother (who would be traveling from her home in Austin, Texas). The wedding weekend activities included a tequila tasting for the bridal party, a fabulous Mexican dinner, a workout led by one of the bride’s friends and a hike in the resort’s park. Meanwhile, the boys indulged in dinner, drinks and golf before the big day. Both Leslie and Bryan felt these activities significantly contributed to making the weekend even more memorable and special than just the wedding day.
The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa was the perfect venue for their nuptials. The alfresco ceremony overlooked the river, surrounded by verdant greenery. The beautiful chuppah was decorated with delicate greenery and blush and ivory flowers. The chuppah featured two heartwarming homages to Leslie’s lost family members, including her grandfather’s tallit’s hanging as a covering and her late birth mother’s bridal veil wrapped around its front right post. To further pay tribute to her mother, the bride carried a swatch of her mother’s veil in her bouquet and reserved a seat for her with a bouquet and a sign labeled “for mommy.” Leslie wore jewelry from both sides of the family, including a bracelet and gold band from her mother and the center stone for the engagement ring from Bryan’s grandmother. In addition, the couple exchanged exquisite wedding bands from Zadok Jewelers in a lovely ceremony broadcast over Zoom for those unable to attend in person.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests moved indoors for a magical reception. The ballroom ceiling was decorated with an abundance of greenery and hanging glass globes filled with twinkling fairy lights. Guests dined on an elegant three-tier red velvet and champagne cake with a strawberry filling designed by Sweet Treets Bakery. The cake was covered with pearlized icing, blush and white flowers, and adorable replicas of the bride and groom’s cat, June, and golden doodle, Kirby. Next, the bride changed into a one-shoulder jumpsuit and overskirt for a night of dancing. Brian and Leslie ended their perfect day with a romantic last dance to take in the day that just flew by. Then the newlyweds exited under a shower of sparklers surrounded by their close friends and family.
