Weddings in Houston: Tell us about Rendered Moments.

Rendered Moments: We are a team of live wedding and event painters in Houston who travel domestically and internationally. We offer live painting, guest sketches, guest caricatures, and any other art-related ideas our couples can come up with! Live painting or guest sketches are a great way to add entertainment for you and your guests. Plus, guest sketches act as custom favors, and the live paintings become an instant family heirloom.

WiH: How do you capture the essence of the couple’s wedding day in a painting?

RM: We provide a questionnaire to get a base idea for our couple, then schedule a consultation call where we can figure out the finer details, including poses, location at the venue, decor, color palettes, or even if they would like to include pets or loved ones that have passed away. We work to ensure all the details of your day that you planned and worked on are captured.

WiH: How long does it take for you to complete the painting during the couple’s wedding day?

RM: For live painting, we will typically arrive a few hours before the ceremony to start the prep work for the background and get the painting in a position where the guests can see the couple being painted during the cocktail hour/reception. The time to finish depends on the amount of details within the painting and the size. The paintings are about 80-90% finished at the end of the night. We usually take the painting back to our studio and ensure every detail is given the time and attention needed to make the best-finished painting. Afterward, we will offer pickup, delivery locally, or ship for free; our average turnaround time during peak seasons is 4-6 weeks, depending on the artist chosen.  The guest sketches or guest caricatures are done on the spot within a matter of minutes for your guests to take and enjoy.

WiH: What aspects of the wedding do you typically focus on in your artwork?

RM: Our artists will work with the couple to ensure we capture a timeless moment they can cherish and display in their home. While we consider what the couple would like, we look for certain moments and details that capture that feeling they had in that moment forever. Depending on the artist chosen, we offer varying styles, where some artists like to focus on mood and lighting, movement and color, or portraiture.

WiH: How do you accommodate the couple’s specific requests or themes for the painting?

RM: Whatever requests couples can consider, we will work with them to ensure the painting matches the vision as closely as possible. We’ve had couples ask for venue changes: moving a fountain into a new spot or adding the cake or sweetheart table into the background. In others, we’ve added the Houston skyline or a sunset in the background. We’ve also added things that did not happen, like cold sparks or dancing on a cloud. Our favorite things to add to the paintings are pets and family and friends who couldn’t be at the wedding or have passed. For these requests, we would just need a few photos to work from.

WiH: What should couples consider when choosing the perfect spot for capturing their live painting?

RM: Think of a moment or part of your venue you admire. If there is a beautiful staircase, chandelier, or high windows. If you want just the two of you, we can make the painting portrait orientation to capture the vertical features. If it is an outdoor wedding, we can capture the nature/architecture, or if you’d like to add guests or family members, we’d suggest a landscape orientation. One thing to consider is that the moment chosen doesn’t have to be the first kiss or the first dance. If you love a certain feature, the outside of the venue or the venue building itself, we can make up a scene just for the painting. This is your painting; have some fun with what it will include.

WiH: Is there anything else you would like to add?

RM: When looking into a live painter, whether with Rendered Moments or another artist, get familiar with that artist’s work and portfolio! If you’re looking for a specific style, most artists can or are not willing to change their style. We know budgets will always come into play, but a painting is something you will have in your home to look at every day and to pass on to your family. Choose an artist you connect with so you will have confidence and know you’ll love painting at the end of your wedding.
