When Devin first noticed Rachel, she was already wearing a white dress and veil. At the time, the pair were just 13 years old, but even still, Devin knew he’d marry that girl someday. And that’s exactly what he did! While Devin and Rachel dated for a few months, about a year later, they broke up because of the long-distance. But, in typical millennial fashion, Devin and Rachel connected through social media again in 2017. “One DM on Instagram, and less than a year later, we were engaged!” said Rachel.
The proposal was nothing short of magical. The couple was on a trip to the US Virgin Islands when Devin had Rachel follow a fun scavenger hunt, hop on a boat, and venture to a private island. With the whole beach to themselves, Devin popped the question, and Rachel happily said yes! With such a thoughtful, intimate engagement, it only fits that their wedding was the same.
While the wedding was initially planned as a destination wedding in Tulum, Mexico, the global COVID-19 pandemic demanded a change in plans. Luckily, Rachel’s maid of honor and best friend offered her bayside home in Galveston for the intimate wedding celebration. But then, on the day of the wedding, a hurricane was forming in the gulf. Gale force winds battered the vendors during set up, but luckily the weather shaped up just in time! By 5 p.m. the winds had calmed and Rachel and Devin joined 30 of their closest friends and family members for their modern, sunset-hued wedding.
Rachel wore an ethereal fitted Galia Lahav wedding dress with a long, sweeping train. She completed the look for her sweet waterside wedding with natural but glamorous makeup, a sweeping, elegant ponytail, and the sweetest something borrowed: her mother’s pearl earrings. While Rachel’s mother couldn’t attend due to being at high risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes, both parents insisted their daughter not postpone the wedding. Instead, she took part in the planning and offered the dainty pearl earrings for the big day.
Sunset Colored Wedding Décor
Plants N’ Petals created the most stunning high-contrast floral arrangements, perfectly matching the couple’s wedding day style. The warm, sunset hues of the red, orange and blush blooms paired with pampas grass perfectly complemented Rachel and Devin’s fall fete. Ghost chairs and a mirrored sweetheart table brought out the chic aspects of the décor. And the tablescapes were downright gorgeous. We especially love the seating cards which the bride made, herself! Rachel enjoys calligraphy and had the idea to hand-paint her guests’ names on rich blue agate slices. How creative, right?
Rachel and Devin’s wedding cake was a decadent three-tiered vanilla and chocolate creation by Susie’s Cakes, adorned with bold red Amaranthus. Then, fresh rose blooms flanked the bottom tier. After slicing into their delectable cake, the couple and their guests danced the night away and enjoyed a majestic sunset over Galveston Bay. “The sunset is always better after a storm. Although we struggled to get photos while the sun was out, the pictures taken during sunset were absolutely amazing!” explained Rachel.
