After a lively night of dancing at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Jennifer and Edgar knew that they were meant to be together.

Edgar proposed on his knee beneath the iconic oak tree at The Houstonian, its sparkling branches creating a warm and romantic glow. After Jennifer said yes, she was surprised with a celebratory engagement party with family and friends in attendance.

On September 12, 2020, the newlyweds and 120 of their guests headed to the Picasso Ballroom at the JW Marriott Downtown Houston for the reception after their church wedding. Bold florals fill the grand ballroom in deep ruby reds, emerald greens – with a touch of blush and silver. The cocktail hour was inspired by the vineyards of Napa Valley, CA, with various tasting stations and personalized touches, including mini wooden wine bottle place cards with a custom monogram wax seal. Delectable hors d’oeuvres pairings included crab cakes, Caprese Bruschetta with whipped ricotta and truffle vinaigrette salad, to name a few.

For dessert, guests indulged in an almond buttercream frosted bridal cake and a double milk chocolate groom’s cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, decorated with fondant gears and a guitar representing Edgar’s musical hobbies, both by Houston baker Susie’s Cakes.

The couple waltzed their last dance of the evening with their dog, Buttons, running happily around the ballroom.

“In place of wedding gifts, we asked our guests to make charitable donations to four local non-profit organizations with causes close to our hearts,” Jennifer says.

This beautiful couple with hearts of gold raised over $7,000 for charities, including the Houston Food Bank, Red Collar Rescue, Crisis Intervention of Houston and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
